Originally opened in 1936, the Prishtina to Belgrade railway has now fallen into disrepair. For Manifesta 14 Prishtina, part of the railway track route will transform into the Green Corridor: a pedestrian path connecting the Brick Factory to the Palace of Youth and Sports in the heart of the city. This urban intervention, implemented in phases according to a participatory process, aims to increase an ease of mobility within the city whilst connecting different neighbourhoods to one another.
This project is realised in the framework of Commons Sense, the Urban Vision for Manifesta 14 Prishtina conceived by the Turin-based design and innovation office CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati, one of the two Creative Mediators of the 14th edition of the European Nomadic Biennial, in close cooperation with the MIT Senseable City Lab.
The associated programme of Commons Sense puts into practice Manifesta 14’s ambitions to revitalise and reclaim public space in Kosovo’s capital. The Green Corridor, a 1300-meter-long urban intervention, is a sustainable mobility path through the heart of Prishtina, greening the city and promoting heightened safety for pedestrians.
The Green Corridor is commissioned by Manifesta 14 Prishtina and designed by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati. The Green Corridor is developed by Manifesta 14 Prishtina together with UN-Habitat and supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Prishtina, Municipality of Prishtina, Generale Costruzioni Ferroviarie (GCF), Kosovo Foundation for Open Society (KFOS), Block by Block Foundation, Embassy of Italy in Prishtina, and Italian Institute of Culture Tirana.
