Manifesta 14 – Family Programme

24.08.2022

One of Manifesta’s core values is to be inclusive and to uphold a culture of inclusivity in all of our programmes. This value is embedded in the outreach that we do to local communities, by building and strengthening the relationship between communities and Manifesta’s Host Cities. The goal of the Mediation Programme is to make the biennial programme respond to the interests and needs of communities in Prishtina, creating spaces in contemporary culture where more people can recognise themselves and can feel included – where previously they may not have.

One way the Mediation Programme intends to do this is through the Family Programme. Across one weekend every month of Manifesta 14 Prishtina, the Mediation Programme wishes to create a space where generations of families meet as equals and take part in a knowledge exchange, through various artistic and social practices. A place where parents, guardians or other family members can learn from the children in their lives, rather than the conventional exchange where juniors learn from their seniors.

Taking place at Oaza, the community space at the Centre for Narrative Practice, the first of the Family Programme events will take place on the 27th and 28th of August 2022.

On the Saturday the 27th of August, in a workshop titled Deconstruct Dictation: Let us read, sound and paint, the Mediation Team will delve into the children’s books of Oaza, bringing the poetry and stories to life through sound and painting as tools for expression.

On the Sunday the 28th of August, Oaza will host an Arts and Crafts workshop titled Defeating Fear with Manifesta 14 Participant Dardan Zhegrova, and his mother and Hajrie Zhergrova. Attendees will be able to create their own dolls to take home, similar to Dardan Zhegrova’s dolls which are part of his intervention on the 7th floor at the Grand Hotel Prishtina.

The Family Programme will host a variety different events and workshops, so keep an eye out on our What’s On page, or our weekly programme across our social media platforms.
