CNP Animation Programme

Join the CNP Animation Programme, an exciting opportunity for aspiring animators and storytellers. This month-long workshop will take place from November 1 to November 30, 2023. Experienced animation tutors will guide you through a comprehensive curriculum covering brainstorming, script development, storyboarding, animatics, character design, animation, post-production, and promotion. The short animations produced during the program will be screened at a public event at CNP. Whether you’re an animation enthusiast or an illustrator looking to explore animation, this program is designed for you. 

Programme Details:
Workshop Dates: November 1 – November 30
Animation screening: Wednesday, December 01, 2023
Tutors: Edvin Susuri, Flaka Kokolli, Yll Bylykbashi 

PROGRAMME: 

November 4-5: Storytelling
Tutor: Yll Bylykbashi 

Day 1 (Saturday – November 4) 

  • Generating ideas for the story, including themes, characters, and settings. 
  • Developing a rough storyline, defining the plot, characters, and their motivations. 

Day 2 (Sunday – November 5) 

  • Writing of a detailed script including dialogues, actions, and scene descriptions.  

November 11 – 12: Storyboarding and Animatics
Tutor: Edvin Susuri 

Day 1 (Saturday – November 11) 

  • Creating a visual representation of your script, detailing each scene through sketches or digital images. Storyboarding helps in visualizing the flow of the animation. 
  • Combining the storyboard images with the recorded audio to create a rough video version of the animation. This serves as a blueprint for the final animation. 

Day 2 (Sunday– November 12) 

  • Character Design: Creating detailed designs for each character, including different expressions and movements. 
  • Background and Prop Design: Designing the environments and objects within the animation. 
  • Color Palette: Deciding on the color scheme that sets the mood and tone of the animation. 

November 14 to 28: Animating Characters and Objects
Tutor: Flaka Kokolli 

  • Animating Characters and Objects: Using animation software to bring characters and objects to life based on the storyboard and animatic. 
  • Timing and Pacing: Ensuring that the animation flows smoothly with appropriate timing and pacing of movements. 

November 28 – 30: Post-Production | Edvin Susuri  

  • Editing the Animation: Arranging the scenes in the desired sequence, ensuring smooth transitions and coherence. 
  • Fine-Tuning: Making necessary adjustments to the animation, audio, and timing. 
  • Rendering: Using rendering software to generate the final high-quality images or video frames. 
  • Compositing: Combining rendered images or frames with effects, backgrounds, and other elements. 
  • Editing: Finalizing the overall editing, ensuring everything is seamless and polished. 
  • Music Composition: Composing or selecing suitable music that complements the mood and emotions of the scenes. 

Friday, 01 December: Public launch of animation shorts at the CNP. 

01 – 31 December: Screening of animation shorts in CNP’s Screening Room. 

How to Apply: 

To apply for the Animation Training at CNP, please sumbit the following materials to cnp@manifesta.org by 24 October:  

  • A brief portfolio showcasing your previous animation or illustration work (if available).
  • A short statement (maximum 300 words) explaining why you’re interested in joining the CNP Animation Programme.
  • Your contact information.
  • Ensure you meet the basic knowledge requirements for animation and/or illustration.
  • Application Period: October 10 – October 24

Note: Throughout the programme, there will be consistent opportunities for interactive discussions, Q&A sessions, and one-on-one feedback sessions with the tutors. Students will be encouraged to practice independently between sessions, further honing their skills and experimenting with various animation techniques, character movements, and storytelling approaches.
